The crowd of 8,322 was the largest for Towson since Sept. 20, 2014.

"It has been a long time since I looked up and saw a sea of gold of all students, that was an impressive moment," Towson head coach Rob Ambrose said. "Watching the freshmen run out onto the field was really cool. Having our entire community fill the stands tonight for the home opener was something special. They had a hand in the outcome of the game by the energy they brought, and I'm grateful that we have this following. These guys earned it. It is impressive being ranked in the top-10 this early in the season, they've earned that right, and we had the following to show it."

The Tiger Zone is the ultimate gathering place for Towson students before every home. With live music, food and a positive vibe, it opens two hours before kickoff. This year as an enhanced touch, members of WBAL-TV's Keith Mills' sportscasting class will do a Towson Gameday show complete with the putting on of the Tiger head to signify who they think will win the game.

FRESHMeN RUN

Beginning a new tradition this season, members of Towson's freshmen class participated in the Freshmen Run prior to the Tiger football team entering the field. It was a cool moment that was appreciated by head coach Rob Ambrose, who took time out to high-five and thank freshmen after the Tigers pre-game routine.

BEYOND THE GAME & BONDING MOMENTS

Face painting, bouncy houses, inflatiable chairs, basketball tosses are all part of the Family Fun Zone that makes Towson games a special experience. Fans of all ages enjoy themselves. Fans entering the game received a Gold Rush T-shirt.

TURTLE ON THE TRACK

Fans have the option of enjoying game action on the track and behind the end zone with their favorite friends, beverages and food from the Greene Turtle. It's free and part of the game-ticket admission into the game. This is another unique way to enjoy the excitement of Towson football.

IN-GAME ENTERTAINMENT

There was plenty happening throughout the game that started with an awesome rendition of "Lift Every Voice & Sing" from Yebbi Belete and the "Star Spangled Banner" from Laverne Acheampong. During the game, Towson students were able to compete in the field goal kicking contest, Scene-It game, and the dizzy bat challenge. The pom squad also turned in a strong performance.

Towson Athletics partnered with Ujima for this game. The organization is celebrating 50 years. Alumni and current students were recognized during halftime.

In front of 8,322 fans, the No. 8/9 Towson University football team defeated North Carolina Central 42-3 for its first 2-0 start since 2013. Towson had 348 yards of total offense on 54 plays, averaging 6.4 yards per play. 324 of those yards came in the first three quarters.Tom Flacco went 15-for-22 in the air for 228 yards and three touchdowns, adding a running score. He found 10 different receivers, including Shane Leatherbury for three catches, 40 yards and two touchdowns and Darian Street for three receptions, 43 yards and a score.On the ground, Shane Simpson averaged 7.4 yards per carry for 89 yards on 12 rushes. Yeedee Thaenrat ran the ball three times for 21 yards and a touchdown.
